      <description>Did you know women have made their mark on BZ history? The Daughters of Zion, precursor to B&#8217;nai Zion Sisterhood, was formed in 1920. The first woman served on the board of the congregation in 1963. Women gained the right to be called for an aliyah on a special occasion in1974, and the first female congregational president was elected in 1991. In 2000, women were granted equality and are now counted in a minyan.</description>
